- Ridges and Valleys – U-shaped contour lines represent ridges and V-shaped lines represent valleys. The closed end of the U or V represents uphill.
- Streams and Rivers – Blue lines on the map represent water bodies such as rivers, lakes, streams, etc. The direction of flow is indicated by V-shaped contour lines converging upstream.
