David is a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor and proven leader with a strong track record in managing people, projects, and performance across the surveying and land development sector. With a Bachelor of Surveying and a New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Civil), he combines technical depth with strategic oversight.

As a hands-on leader, David is passionate about building high-performing teams and fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and client focus. His approach to project delivery is grounded in collaboration, clear communication, and a relentless drive to get the best outcome — for clients and team members alike.

Daniel Muir

Director | Licensed Cadastral Surveyor | BSurv | NDipSurv | MS+SNZ

Daniel is a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor and Director at Definition Surveying. With a Bachelor of Surveying, National Diploma in Surveying, and a Certificate in Surveying, he brings a deep technical foundation and over two decades of experience to every project.

Since 2004, Daniel has developed expertise across cadastral surveying, engineering set-out, construction layout, laser scanning, and photogrammetry. He’s a firm believer in using technology to lift standards in the industry — with a particular interest in how AI and automation are reshaping the way surveyors work.

Whether it’s refining processes or tackling complex boundary issues, Daniel combines old-school field smarts with forward-thinking tools to deliver smart, reliable outcomes.

Anton Tukaki

Director

Ngāi te Rangi (Ngāi Tuwhiwhia | Ngāti Tauaiti)

With over 15 years’ experience in the Surveying and Civil Engineering industry, Anton brings deep technical knowledge and a collaborative approach to every project. His expertise spans geodetic control, subdivision design, cadastral and engineering surveying, project management, and stakeholder engagement — with a particular passion for Māori land development.

Anton is a strong communicator who thrives in multidisciplinary environments, whether working alongside consultants, sub-contractors, or iwi. He’s motivated by achieving quality outcomes and ensuring clients feel informed, supported, and confident throughout the process.

Daniel Fraser

Principal Surveyor | BSurv

With over 25 years of hands-on experience in land surveying, construction, and business management, Daniel brings serious know-how and calm confidence to every project. From leading national survey teams to managing multimillion-dollar operations, he knows how to deliver results and do it with a steady hand and sharp eye for detail.

Whether he’s pricing complex projects, navigating legal boundaries, or mentoring junior staff, Daniel’s all about solutions that are smart, practical, and built to last.

Jarad Inglis

Survey Team Leader | NDipSurv | AM+SNZ

Jarad started his career in the late 1990’s and has had a mix of roles, including the delivery of surveying projects and more recently leading teams. Jarad is one of the team’s senior surveyors and has an extensive background in engineering surveying, construction surveying, scanning and UAV technologies. Jarad’s key strengths are his approachable nature and unique ability to explain complex subjects in a very simple and understandable way.

Sheldon McGuire

Licensed Cadastral Surveyor | BSurv (Dist.) | AM+SNZ

Sheldon is a specialist cadastral surveyor. He is one of the team’s Licensed Cadastral Surveyors and holds a Bachelor of Surveying with Distinction from the University of Otago.

Sheldon’s expertise includes Subdivision, Land Development and Legalisations, with a detailed background in Geodetic, Engineering, and Topographical Surveying.

Being from the Chatham Islands, Sheldon is passionate about people and their connection to land. He loves engaging with his clients to understand their needs, and utilising emerging technologies to resolve complex surveys.

Steven Su

Survey Technician | BEngTech (civil)

After a successful 16-year career in the insurance industry in China and three years of study in the field of civil engineering in New Zealand, Steven Su graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (civil). Steven has now taken on the challenge of being a Survey Technician at Definition Surveying.

Steven is passionate about utilising modern technologies and innovative practices to deliver optimal solutions for clients. His commitment to excellence and continuous learning ensures he stays abreast of the latest advancements in the field.

Jordan Dyer

Licensed Cadastral Surveyor | BSurv (Credit) | AM S+SNZ

Jordan is a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor and has a Bachelor of Surveying from the University of Otago. When he’s not turning angles or banging pegs in the ground, you’ll find Jordan outdoors in the surf or on his mountain bike.

Jordan has sound technical and management skills across the board in Surveying, Subdivision, and Land Development projects. He’s a people’s person and is passionate about helping clients achieve the best results.

 

Bede Anderson

Licensed Cadastral Surveyor | BSurv | AM+SNZ

After graduating from Otago University in 2014, Bede has built a wide range of skills from Cadastral surveying, Geodetic Control Networks, Engineering Surveys, Terrestrial Laser Scanning, Photogrammetry and Project management. During this time, the surveying landscape has rapidly evolved by developing new modern technologies. As a result, Bede has developed a passion for utilising the latest tools to deliver the best solution for his clients.

Amy Airey

Office Administrator | BMgt

Amy is the team administration at Definition Surveying. She brings a wide range of skills acquired during her previous administrative and management roles in the hospitality, education, and construction industries. She supports the Directors and the wider team to deliver professional surveying services on time and on budget.

Amy is eager to expand her knowledge in surveying and assist with project management. She is keen to help our clients and our team wherever possible. Originally from the Bay of Plenty, Amy enjoys quality time with family and friends, diving into a good book, and growing her collection of houseplants.

Lochlan Kelso

Survey Technician | UAV Pilot

With 8+ years of experience as a skilled Survey Technician across the Trans-Tasman region, Lochlan has honed his expertise in traditional surveying techniques. His fascination with the ever-growing tech field of survey mapping led him to explore the potential of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). As a Drone Operator since January 2022, Lochlan harnesses UAV technology to provide high-resolution aerial imagery, orthomosaics, terrain & infrastructure modelling and multispectral capture.

 

Lochlan has also been involved in monitoring natural disaster recovery processes, utilizing UAVs to assess damage and support recovery efforts. His technical skills with UAVs have been pivotal in data asset capture for Dunedin International Airport, contributing to enhancing airport operations and data asset management.

 

With a well-rounded background in both traditional surveying and cutting-edge UAV technology, Lochlan brings precision and value to every project. When he’s not flying UAVs or immersed in a point cloud, you can find him in the mountains or at the beach with some form of board at his feet.

Max Schikker

Senior Surveyor | BSurv | AM+SNZ

Max brings over seven years of experience in the surveying industry, with a strong focus on geospatial technologies. After earning his Bachelor of Surveying degree, he began his career as a graduate surveyor and has since worked on a diverse range of projects, honing his skills to become a trusted Senior Surveyor.

In previous roles, Max has expertly overseen and managed projects of varying sizes and complexities. He specialises in advanced methodologies, including laser scanning and UAV technology, delivering precise and innovative solutions tailored to client needs.

His extensive project experience has given him a deep understanding of every stage in a project’s lifecycle — from initial data capture through to final deliverables. Max’s commitment to precision and efficiency ensures that every project runs smoothly and successfully.

Having recently relocated from Auckland to the Bay for a more relaxed lifestyle, Max is excited to bring his expertise to the Tauranga team at Definition Surveying, driving innovative approaches and delivering exceptional results for clients.

Janine Merrylees

With over 19 years of experience in the consultant engineering sector, Janine brings a wealth of expertise to her role as Operations Manager. Her diverse skill set encompasses project management, operations, administration, quality management, and human resources.

Janine is committed to maintaining high standards in operations by optimising processes, driving efficiency, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Janine enjoys staying active and spending her time running and hiking on the hills in Canterbury. She also looks forward to family camping trips for a change of pace.

Chris Bean

Chris Bean is a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor with over 16 years of industry experience, delivering high-quality survey solutions across construction set-out, topographical, and cadastral projects. He brings a strong foundation in applying surveying principles with sound professional judgment to manage and implement projects of varying complexity.

Chris has developed broad capabilities in job management, including pricing for tenders, project planning, logistics coordination, client and stakeholder liaison, and full project execution from fieldwork through to deliverables. He is experienced in supervising and mentoring graduate surveyors and technicians, ensuring quality control and professional development within the team.

Chris combines strong technical expertise with leadership capability, contributing to the delivery of accurate, efficient, and client-focused survey services.

Stuart O'Neill

Stuart is a highly skilled senior surveyor and an infrastructure delivery specialist with international experience in various roles across public utilities, mining, road networks, marine structures and electricity infrastructure. His surveying expertise covers cadastral surveying, mine and topographical surveying, mining and civil engineering design, industrial laser scanning, commercial set-out, as-builts, project management, and commercial management of electricity generation and distribution networks and forestry portfolios.

His background includes work in both the private sector and local government, giving him a well-rounded perspective on land development, commercial risk and contract management strategies to ensure optimal contract delivery.

Stuart’s strong relationships with local contractors, council personnel, and key stakeholders in Otago and Southland have established him as a trusted professional. His passion for property development drives his commitment to effective client liaison and successful project delivery.

Outside of work Stuart enjoys working with community lead initiatives to support community well being, as well as exploring the outdoors with his two young lads.
